When Al spoke about Paul and how 'Can You Hear Me Now' was found he said they were in the studio. Musicians are not in the studio unless they are recording something.

They have supposedly been working on some Christmas music.

It might be true.  It might not.  TSO always has given very guarded, positive spin answers to questions and how they present themselves.  They know they will get asked if they are recording anything new; they will always say they are in the studio or assessing what to work on next.  They would never say “no” or “who knows?”.

They also own their own studio, so they can do some rehearsing or auditioning there as well.

This whole “we found that song in a box” is a little contrived.  Two years ago, Dino Jelusic was learning that song and was on his way to Florida to record it when Paul died.  So it wasnt exactly some relic that no one knew about. It is a very old song though, dating back to his Slowburn band days.

Lastly, Mike, since you have repeatedly gone on and on about how you have given up on TSO and moved on to other music, you have nothing to worry about here.  Smile
Can't let the fans know what we are doing now can we lol. So much for "the fans own the band." Yes I have moved on from TSO as my main source or a big source  of musical enjoyment and to other music as my main source and big source of musical enjoyment. I just don't eat sleep and breathe TSO anymore. There is more to the music world than TSO. I would LOVE to get a new album from TSO especially if it were Romanov. Dino was on his way to Florida two years ago to record the song? So they are recording. How long does it take to put out an album for crying out loud.
More Christmas music? That's a good one. What about Romanov, Gutter Ballet, Fairytale Moon?

That was in April 2017. Paul was recording. He was always recording. That was then.
Dan, you have been pretty critical of TSO throughout the years yourself yet you are a moderator here and have information, opinions and comment quite a lot. You are also pretty thick with Scott Kelley and Wizards of Winter so you have moved on too.

Yup, I do have info and opinions and I do comment alot.  I have been critical of how they have treated certain personnel over the years and of the increased reliance of the spectacle elements of the production, but that doesnt mean I don't enjoy their music and Shows.  I am critical of alot of bands that I enjoy that have done things that I didnt like.  You dont have to be an "all-in" fanatic in order to like a band.  I haven't moved on from TSO though - I still enjoy the music and band/singers immensely, I go to the Shows every year, I assist the admin in moderating a TSO fan page and interview the performers.  I wouldn't do all that if I had moved on from them. lol

And being a fan of (or as you put it, "thick with") The Wizards of Winter does not mean that I moved on.  It means that I enjoy them also.  Just as I also enjoy Mannheim Steamroller and a host of other bands.

So nope, that is incorrect.
A new album would be a nice treat, though I'm not counting on it.  And I don't mean any disrespect, but in a way, I think a new album without Paul at the helm would be refreshing.  For me, NC and LFTL both felt a bit soulless, as if Paul was working from a formula (oh sure, the over-the-top theatrics were there, but it felt hollow to me, compared to the previous albums.)  With Al or Jon possibly taking a more active role in putting a new album together, we might end up with something that takes TSO forward or, at the very least, feels a bit more heartfelt and a bit less mechanical.  Of course, I'm sure a new album would have a ton of Paul's influence, and it should, but adding a fresh perspective could help.

I also really wish they'd take the Nightwish approach and work with a real symphony.  For a band that calls itself Trans-Siberian Orchestra, their "orchestra" often sounds remarkably like a keyboard synth, especially on LFTL.

I couldn't agree more, particularly with LFTL.  What those albums are missing is Bob Kinkel.  Bob did some production on NC, but as it was recorded mostly in Florida, Bob wasn't nearly as involved in its creation as he was on previous albums.  And of course LFTL had zero Bob involvement.  Those first four albums really benefited from from Bob's superior musicianship, production and arranging skills, and to me, there is something noticeably lacking without him.  There are still some fine performances on NC and LFTL and a few stand-out tracks, but the albums as a whole pale in comparison to the the first four albums imho.

Well said.

I guess we'll see if TSO's management and Paul's daughter decide that recording and releasing a new album is in the act's best interest.  And if so, if they will continue down Paul's path of trying to establish TSO as a non-Christmas entity as well.
