Tim Hockenberry talks TSO, "Believe", new solo album in new interview
#1
As his new solo album is about to be released, I recently caught up with singer/songwriter Tim Hockenberry for an in-depth sit-down interview. Tim sang lead on four TSO songs, though fans most identify him as the voice of the TSO remake of "Believe". Tim was a featured vocalist with TSO East for four tours, from 2008-2010.

Some of the subjects we covered:

- His musical background, including his trombone and jazz study
- Coming aboard TSO without auditioning
- The surprise guest vocalist on Sparks!
- His separation from TSO
- The story behind his run on America's Got Talent
- Writing and recording his new solo release

Another great interview!

I always wondered why he didn't sing "Believe" on Americas Got Talent; To me it would have made a lot of sense, but I understand now. I also had no idea that he sang Dream Child in concert.

Gonna have to look into his new album, always really loved his voice.

Interesting. Very surprised at how AGT owns those people. Like so many others who played or sang with TSO Tim doesn't need them. Paul will always find someone. Says he wasn't bitter but he sure sounds it. Kind of forgot Tim recorded Dream Child and is on that obscure Kohl's 2013 exclusive release that is not even considered a part of the TSO catalog as well as a few others like that. Dream Child is one of my favorite songs. Even though Tim does not like Someday I LOVE  Heart it and prefer it WAY MORE  Exclamation than Kayla's rendering. Can't understand why Paul does all these re-recordings. Maybe that is why official albums are so far between, studio time is taken up re-recording songs, 140 takes! 2 weeks! Tim also sang the national anthem at a football game.

If Paul was going to promote Believe and Tim like Tim was told and it never happened and since the Savatage guys were resentful to Tim because they felt Believe was sacred to Jon and Chriss Oliva could it be possible the Savatage guys leaned on Paul not to promote Believe and Tim and Paul gave in? I would have to think Chris C and JLM led the way. Chris C was best buds with Chriss O and JLM left Savatage after Chriss O died. Al probably couldn't have cared less since he was just out to make a living and was not even part of the recording of Believe and was only with Savatage for DWD and WOM. I don't see Jeff caring either since he too was not with Savatage when Believe was recoded. Interesting though that Tim and Jon O got along though and if anybody would have been resentful it would have been Jon O.
