Wizards of Winter (with TSO alumni) - New Album and 2019 Tour Dates!
#1
The Wizards of Winter have announced their tour schedule.  Their excellent band includes two former TSOers. Tony Gaynor is in his 7th year as narrator and occasional backing vocalist.  John O.Reilly came on board last year behind the drums for their 2018 tour and is all over their brand new Christmas album, The Christmas Dream.

This year, Steve Brown, guitarist from Trixter, Def Leppard and Rubix Kube, has joined the band as well and joins Rainbow/Ted Nugent bassist Greg Smith and Irish Tenor Karl Scully in this top notch band.

If you haven't seen them yet, they do make it clear that they are not trying to be TSO. They are inspired by their early albums and tours though, and the show is very similar to TSO shows from 1999-2001 with the focus squarely on the music and presenting a full Christmas concert (first and second halves being all Christmas).

I have seen them the last six years, and highly recommend their concerts.  They will not blow you away with lasers, dancing girls or dragon visuals. They will entertain you with a great Christmas rock concert though, with catchy hook-laden songs, progressive-rock elements, and top notch talent on stage. Highly recommended if you are looking to add a show to your concert itinerary this upcoming season.  :-)

This is one of their songs from the new album, featuring O.Reilly on drums of course and some killer playing from guitarist Fred Gorhau and flutist Sharon Kelly:

Cool.  I've seen them before and they put on a great show.  Going to catch that Bergen date this year.  I love how prominent the flute is in their music (and that the flute is real, not keyboard-flute).  I'm excited to see Steve Brown with them.  The one guitarist that has been with them the whole time is amazing, but Steve is certainly no slouch.

Oh, and I got their new album - it is excellent. A little early for me to listen to Christmas music, but I was jamming to it in my car. Great stuff!

I sat down with Wizards of Winter founding members Scott Kelly (Keyboards) and Sharon Kelly (Flute/Vocals). We did an in-depth chat about their new album, The Christmas Dream, and their 2019 tour.

Some of the topics we touched on:

- Their creative writing and recording process for the new album
- The back-story to many of the songs on the new album
- Working with bandmembers John O.Reilly, Greg Smith and Fred Gorhau in studio
- The positives and negatives of working independently in the music business
- The song they are most looking forward to playing on the upcoming tour.
and much more!
