Well to be fair, TLCE does have the main character's wife bleed to death giving birth to his son, which is EXTREMELY dark for a Christmas story. I'd say that a story about Christmastime during the Bosnian War would kinda be on that same level.
Wasn't it dropped for that very reason? And without the narration, most of the songs are uplifting. I think only the title track is a downer
