Figured this deserved its own thread. While things can and often do change in TSO/Savatage land, work has begun on a new Savatage album. Certain members are now in the studio in Florida. More news surely to come...

They do have a reputation for taking their time and delays, but then again that was mainly Paul. This all came together somewhat unexpectedly and somewhat quickly. Certainly can't speculate on a release date right now as that is often set by the label. But yes, awesome is a word I would use as well.

Excellent. Let's hope we can squeeze a tour out of them too. Nobody is getting any younger.

Yes I'd be down for a tour also. I'm just excited that they are finally allowed to make a new Savatage album. I guess we will get that instead of a new TSO record.
So it looks like Jon spoke to one of the super-fans who admins one of the Savatage fan facebook groups. She posted this message:
"This is Jon Oliva speaking to all the people in the Savatage groups first of all I would like to really thank you all for being fans of the band and hanging in there believe me I've been hanging in there too there are many surprises coming up we ain't done yet I wish I could disclose some of them to you but I'll probably get sued or some stupid s*** like that we're working on new material we're getting things together just be a little patient which I know you guys have been for a hundred years I love you all thank you so much for your support it ain't over until it's over Yogi Berra said that great baseball player I'm getting off of this subject we're also working on a new Trans-Siberian Orchestra record and that's going really well we are working on new Sava material all is good I love all you guys thank you so much God bless you all." MetalRiot.com decided to make this a story and posted it with the headline "Savatage is back and they're working on new music!". They then were told to remove the article. They replaced it with the same article but new headline, "Are Savatage back and working on new music?". This is the article: http://metalriot.com/news/savatage-is-ba...-new-music The article writes "the assumption is it will include the same members from that 2015 “reunion”: vocalist Jon Oliva, guitarists Chris Caffery and Al Pitrelli, bassist Johnny Lee Middleton and drummer Jeff Plate." No need to make assumptions - the lineup IS that PLUS Zak Stevens which that article apparently forgot about. The quote seems legit but this was apparently news to the fan. Anyway - work has continued on the record with some interesting song developments happening. Will share more when I can.
